| Gina Balducci's Waterbase CD

Product Description
Waterbase is a CD of New Age music with water as its unifying theme. Ambient soundscapes were created by combining nature sounds with a variety of acoustic instruments, electric and fretless bass and the midi bass. The resulting lush, evocative atmospheres make Waterbase ideal for relaxation, massage, meditation and guided imagery sessions. Waterbase was conceived, written, performed, engineered and produced by Gina Balducci.
About the Artist

Gina Balducci, the innovative creator of WATERBASE, is not the first artist to discover in music a link to the subconscious mind. Or the last musician to hear in the abundance of nature's sounds the essence of the rhythms and melodies that define music. She is one of the few to emerge with a genuinely inspired soundscape that transforms the spirit and energy of water into music.
Encouraged to further pursue this musical journey to overcome her own tension and insomnia, Gina began to search for a personal link to that deeper center that defines each of us and to examine for herself how music affects the body and mind. As she read, researched, meditated, and listened, musical sketches emerged from her own playing on bass, mandolin, and guitar, and an enthusiasm took hold. What began as an exercise to calm her own mind, became a communal journey.
Working as a musician in local bands and studios, Gina also owns and operates a small project sound studio which serves as a pre-production studio for professional artists such as composer-bassist Gary King. Gina worked with Gary on "Passions Tadzio" for a Warner Brothers release in 1994. In working to create unique sounds for Gary's bass for the album, she discovered new techniques to enhance her own talent in composing for the bass.
WATERBASE unites Gina's creativity in composing and writing songs with her drive to produce an experience of sound that communicates pictures. "My idea was to create several titled pieces or soundscapes that would allow the listener to relax and visualize their own river or ocean."
It is no surprise that the spirit of WATERBASE is genuine and gentle. It is the soul of the creator. It is not only the reward of a musician's labor, but a personal spiritual journey. "I would like to devote most of my time to developing and creating more of this for myself and others. I learn something new about music and technology every day. I learn something about myself. That's what I love about it."
Editorial Reviews
The Morning Call, May 1998
Waterbase is a lush, evocative series of soundscapes. The instrumental music and nature sounds are meant to soothe the listener by degrees. Starting with "City Creek", with its bubbly, slightly "up" character, the disc progresses through "the River" and "Ocean." By the time the mysterious and peaceful "Rain"envelopes the listener, if any stray worries remain, they will be put to rest by the quiet, lovely finale, "Moonlake".
From the Label
The genius of WATERBASE is its simplicity. It is all the aspects of life pulled gently and incessantly to the center of one life - the listener's. In the rush of water against urban banks (City Creek) is anticipation and anxiety brought to a natural calm; in the pulsing currents of a living and breathing river (The River) is the exhilaration of renewed dedication to life; in the passionate and powerful ocean (Ocean) is the dream of a world loved and protected; in the delightfully refreshing rain shower (Rain) is the exciting touch of a new love, and in a moonlight ride across a placid lake (Moonlake) is the reality of a spirit at peace. The soundscape Gina has discovered includes sounds of nature mixed with additional performances on the Peavey Midibass, Peavey Fretless Bass, Spector Bass, fretless bass, Martin D35 Acoustic Guitar, Calkin mandolin and the list goes on. From reinventing the call of the whales on a fretless electric bass to charting an enchanting melody line with the mandolin, Gina manages to creatively tell a story that cannot be misunderstood. |
